Dentures

A denture can be made to replace any number of missing teeth and surrounding tissues and is removable for cleaning. Depending on the area of the mouth and number of teeth to be replaced, they come in different shapes with pieces of appliances attached for the best functionality, comfort, and look.

Usually, creating a denture takes 6 to 12 weeks after extracting teeth, as it takes time for gums to heal and shrink so they can support the denture, whether partial or full.

  • Examination of gums and the remaining teeth which will be supporting the denture
  • Make impressions of your mouth to create a “dummy denture” made of wax
  • Try the dummy several times to adjust the fit and check the alignment of teeth, colour, size, and other details
  • A final denture is made
  • Adjustment is made for the best fit, functionality, and comfort

It is important to always bring in your removable dentures at your regular check-ups to maintain the condition of the dentures, as well as your mouth.

HYBRID DENTURES:

A hybrid denture is a permanent set of teeth that look, feel, and function just like natural teeth. Essentially, this type of denture is stabilized in the jaw bone and is a cross between a traditional denture and a fixed bridge. This tooth replacement option is often the best solution for people who have a significant amount of bone loss in the jaw and who don’t want to have multiple teeth removed in order to be fitted with dentures.

HOW A HYBRID DENTURE DIFFERS FROM A REMOVABLE DENTURE

Unlike a removable denture that requires adhesive to keep it stable, a hybrid denture is firmly attached to four or more implants in the jaw. Following the healing of the implants in the jaw bone, the implants are connected to abutments that are screwed into a metal framework. The hybrid denture is fixed and does not need to be taken out every day like regular dentures, making it a much more convenient option for replacing missing teeth.

Unlike removable dentures that often feel bulky and uncomfortable, hybrid dentures represent a more comfortable option. And since the upper palate is left open, these dentures make it easier to fully taste and enjoy all the flavors of foods. Hybrid dentures also don’t move and shift out of place like removable dentures often do, as they’re very secure and stable. This stability also prevents any soreness from developing, which is common when removable dentures are worn and especially when small pieces of food become trapped under the dentures.
